Makhanda TB Hospital Shutdown

Themba Hospital had been operational for over 30 years. The hospital specialises in tuberculosis and has been a great help for many people in and around Makhanda.

In 2023, it was shut down, and people moved to Settlers Hospital. The health department did not inform the community or explain to them why they decided to move the patients to a different hospital. Now the facility has been vandalised, and the residents in the area have called the councillor. He said they cannot do anything because it’s private property, and they don’t know the owner. As things stand, many crimes are being committed there, including robberies targeting children at two nearby schools.

The Makana Local Municipality is currently not doing anything about the building, which is now breeding crime.
