On the morning of 02 April 2024, a minibus taxi picked up waiting commuters as usual but arrived already carrying four passengers after driving around to get more passengers. The taxi only needed two more passengers to be full when problems ensued.
Busi Ndimande speaking to other passengers, said that they had already paid in the taxi by the time the two passengers came in. She alleged that the problem started when the passenger seated next to the taxi operator was giving people their change back. The amount of money she had ran short, there was money missing.
Passengers on board the taxi started to argue about the money, and the fight escalated without a way forward. A lady seated at the back of the taxi suggested that the driver should stop the taxi so that the matter be solved. The lady, Lili, most passengers disagreed with her suggestion, but one male passenger supported her proposal.
The taxi operator stopped the taxi and started explaining that he only gave the guy change but did not take any from the money people paid.
Lili at the back reminded the driver that he went out of the taxi before the two passengers came in and proceeded to speculate that the money may have fallen when he went out to his bosses to check in with them. After that question, all the passengers asked the taxi operator where the money was. Although there was no answer, most people received their change back, only the taxi operator and the passenger next to him who was dealing with the change did not receive all their money.
The taxi stopped for 50 minutes but still, the issue had not been resolved. The taxi operator was angry and wanted to take the passengers back to the taxi rank where he picked them up but Lili told the taxi operator that he could not do such a thing. She told him that as passengers they still needed to get to work.
Then the taxi operator went on with taking the passengers to work but before he made some treat that he would bewitch everyone in the taxi. Lili told him that all passengers are humans that know how to pray so they will all pray for him with his treats.
