South African Townships vs. Coronavirus

The COVID-19 virus has hit the township of Duduza and the nearby township KwaThema as well, located in the East of Johannesburg. Some residents seemed to be taking this virus lightly as many were out looking for the nearest places they could find alcohol in the first seven days of the lockdown. The visibility of the South African Police Services (SAPS) and the National Defence Force was not seen at all in the area. Lines in the grocery stores have been a nightmare. What seemed to be more amusing was the way people responded to the virus and the lockdown. Males have been spotted playing soccer with their fathers, while females were playing a popular game of tins with their mothers in the streets on Wednesday, 1 April. A day later, after the confirmation that a nurse has tested positive for coronavirus in Duduza Main Clinic, residents have been well behaved and have been indoors. No games are being played.
