Post Office Bank Incompetence with COVID-19 Grants

Unemployed people were over the moon when the government announced that from May 2020 all unemployed people will receive R350 for six months.

Too many vulnerable people this came as a relief as they thought hunger would be elevated. The South African Post Office Bank got the contract from government to distribute these COVID-19 relief grants.

But the Post Office never improved it’s own infrastructure to accommodate the thousands of people who applied. Now people wake up at dawn and spend the whole day waiting to collect the money each month.

Too few tellers work and some cleaners and security officials take bribes from people.

In many cases each person pays about R50 to be put at the front of the queue, all because of poor service delivery. This is a real shame.
