The nine week-long strike of Clover workers has ended and a settlement was reached. Workers returned to work on 10 and 11 Dec 2020 after being on strike since 13 October. General Industries Workers Union of South Africa (GIWUSA) and our members at Clover express our comradely appreciation for the support given by organisations, activists and individuals. Many supported the Boycott of Clover Products, and organised other forms of solidarity.
The settlement includes a 6,5% wage increase backdated to 1 July, shift allowance to be increased by 1%, 380 labour brokers to made permanent, no worker is to be dismissed for refusing to work on public holidays until an essential service agreement is reached, and for alleged misconduct during the strike non-dismissal disciplinary action maybe issue.
We salute you for your solidarity. Amandla!
