Blocked Sewerage System Making Life Unbearable for Community of Hebron

The community of Snake Park (previously known as Matshelapata), in Hebron, North West province have been having a problem with a blocked sewerage drainage system that burst in their area. The sewerage has exploded and has been spilling into the community area but no one has taken responsibility of fixing it. The community of Hebron has complained about this matter to the councillor but no action was taken.

The community has complained about the unbearable smell that comes from this sewerage spillage. One person spoke about how when it’s hot they cannot stay outside in their garden to enjoy the fresh air because of the smell that is coming from the sewerage.

Another community member complained that the sewerage does not only cause the bad smell, it also draws flies to their houses and they are concerned about their health and the health of their family. They are also afraid for their kids’ health as the sewerage flows into the nearby river and sometimes kids swim in the river and the water is contaminated.
