The community of Daveyton (on the eastrand of Johannesburg) stood together on Monday morning, 5 October to fight the corruption taking place in the process of getting RDP houses. Residents marched in all the streets of Daveyton, burning tires and protesting about RDP houses that are being sold to people not part of the community.

Daveyton have been building RDP house for the residents of Daveyton who registered  since 1996 but most of them have not received houses even today, but each and every year RDP houses are built, the community sees youngsters move in.

A resident said “Daveyton is full of corruption from the mayor himself down to the community leaders. For the past three years people been having meetings. They even moved the church claiming they would build houses there to allocate to people. All these houses that are built in the Vista area (in Daveyton) have been sold to nurses mostly, whereas they claimed they would give it to elderly people but no, they sold them to nurses”.

‘Stevavo’ Nteso said “they built a RDP house in Extension 12 in my name but someone stays there even though I have printouts of the title deed from 2007”.

Some residents have been fighting these battle for a long time and this is what made the residents furious and brought the community of Daveyton together to fight this corruption.
