Young players from Thokoza Ext 1 and Kwanele, Katlehong, played to get a spot in the next league game. Both teams played an exciting from start to finish.
Tshepo Zim (31), the coach of Othandweni United FC, was very proud and happy with the win. He started the football club back in 2018 to give children in his community a safe place to play and improve their skills.
“There are many talented children in my community, but not enough clubs or people to nurture the talent and I wanted to create a safe space for them to support and grow their talent,” said coach Zim.
Lwando Mpanza, a 13-year-old player from Thokoza ext 1, won man of the match after his performance in his team’s victory.
The league has two streams, A and B, with 12 teams in each stream. This makes every game important as the teams compete for the championship.
The next league game is on Wednesday, 26 June 2024, where Katlehong Fillers will play against Othandweni United FC, also at Sam Ntuli.
This game is expected to be just as exciting as the last one. The games show how talented the young players in our communities are and how important community support is, in grooming talents and keeping children busy, especially during school holidays.
The dedication of both teams to helping children through soccer is making a big difference in Thokoza and Katlehong.
