Water maintenance will be taking place from 24 June 2024. It will affect the pump line of Eikenhof and some parts of the city.

The water situation leaves the city in huge disappointment putting the businesses, residents, and visitors in a crisis. Another small business owner named Daniel Mwinter who is an owner of the West Side Barber Shop says, “The going of water ruins everything I can’t wash people’s hair because if there is no water.”

Mwinter went on to add that he is also a Johannesburg resident. The government should always decide about the water situation.

Lebohang Lopez, said “The government is not doing enough about water issues and water is a need.”

The man who washes cars for a living had to buy water to get his business running. Lopez said, “If there is no water we can’t work, I had to go Hillbrow to get water, in the CBD, [it] really affected the residents and business owners, everything had to stop because of this issue.”

Nosipho Mangewane, a street vendor who sells food on Pritchard Street, said “The [absence of] water affected me a lot, I had to buy water from my friend which cost me R20 for 5 litres. It started [on] Thursday this thing of water ‘going’ and on Friday it came back for one hour and it was gone [again], even now I’m not sure if it’s back.”

Mangewane added by saying “The government is not doing enough they should use enough resources.” The government should at least inform the people earlier about if there is going to be a maintenance of water [infrastructure] within the City of Johannesburg so the business owner and the residents can store water in tanks, bottles, and many other things you can store water in, and also do come to the people and supply water to the business owner and the residents.
