Rena le Lona was established in 2005 by Michelle Friedman. It is situated in Zone 6, Diepkloof, Soweto. The organisation runs as an Orphaned and Vulnerable Centre (OVC) and aims to raise awareness through arts and reading to bring healing to vulnerable children. The organisation works with vulnerable children, who are infected with HIV, are orphaned, rape survivors and others.
The staff consist of the Centre Manager, Social Auxiliary Worker, Admin, Caregivers, Mentors, Art practitioner and Sub-contract artists. Their staff is hired through a recruitment process managed by supervisors and managers. They are held accountable through reports and assessments.
The organisation has taken part in campaigns like ARPA Campaign, Gender Based Violence (GBV) Campaign and Anti-Drug Campaign. They are in alliance with organisations such as Department of Social Development (DSD) and HIVSA. They have recently started a Men’s Forum, and have training and debriefings to empower the male staff.
