The Water Crisis Committee (WCC) was formed by Siyabulela Mama and Tony Motel in 2021. It consists of different organisations that came together to form one organisation around the water struggles. The organisation deals with water-related issues including high water bills, shortage of water etc. The organisation meets every Friday at 2 pm to discuss issues affecting the community and responses to those issues.
WCC has several campaigns around the issue of water. One of their big campaigns was the water bill campaign, where they were dealing with the fact that the community was billed for water it did not receive. For a long time, the community had no water, but the municipality billed them over R10 000. They also did campaigns to ensure that every household has Jojo tanks amid water shortages.
WCC hosts events such as Imbizo where they meet with other communities and organisations to speak out about issues they are facing. The organisation doesn’t have a structure according to Nokuthula Mamana, everyone is allowed to share their thoughts and they make decisions as a collective.
