Children’s Resource Centre Supports Call to Close Schools Now

Dear Parents and all Supporting Communities and Organisations

The Children’s Resource Centre (CRC) supports the call to Close All Schools Now and Transform Our Education System.

The transformation of our education system never took place after 1994. Closing them to protect our children from the COVID-19 pandemic is the best thing to do.

They will lose nothing because they never gained much if anything after 1994.

We can use the time of closure to begin building a new system of education, something communities fought so hard for during the 1980s and 1990s.

But we, as parents and communities, should also use this time to take back the Bringing Up (socialisation) of our children through starting and sustaining cultural, recreational, sports and many other activities to help build and sustain healthier and better communities.

Let us start Street Committees, set up Street Kitchens, start Street Gardens so that we can begin a programme of feeding ourselves and generally build Friendship, Peace and Solidarity, Sharing and Caring for each other. This in itself is a major project.

We at the CRC have shown over the years that children can be active participants in that process.

We therefore welcome this initiative and wish you well and much success.

Marcus Solomon,
On behalf of the Children’s Resource Centre
