In our area, there are a lot of dirty streets and they are affecting many people including children and the homeless. People are getting sick because of the smells and pollution. Moreover, people even eat the dumped food or are sleeping on the illegal dumping sites.

It has been years of this situation, and we do not even get a solution from our government. This is despite the smells from the illegal dumping on the streets are affecting us a lot because we cannot open our windows and doors.

Some of the big issues we face are no rubbish bins and lack of transport. Many feel the City of Johannesburg and the government have failed the community.

As a community, we need to have a meeting with the street vendors to talk about it. We must agree to write a letter to go to our mayor or councillor. The letter will tell them we need a solution or we will have a peaceful march so that they must change. Alternatively, our government could create jobs in our community by hiring the unemployed to collect and transport the litter.
