Ikageng Itereleng Aids ministry was formed in 2001 in Orlando West Soweto by Carol Dyantyi. The organisation was formed because there were a lot of orphaned and vulnerable children in the community who went to ask for food and clothes from Carol. The organisation has a structure that includes the board members, management, coordinators and staff. The caregivers conduct home visits to assist them with nutritional guidance and educational support.
The organisation’s daily activity includes home visits to their beneficiaries, the intake of orphan and vulnerable children in their communities, and reading and writing. They also have aftercare programmes during school holidays which include activities like drama, sports and girls’ mentorship. The organisation runs an ongoing campaign that focuses on helping drug addicts to go to rehab. This campaign was started by a staff member who was a drug addict to assist other youth in the same predicament.
The organisation is working with local primary and high schools, Khanya College, churches and early childhood development centres. Ikageng also gives training to their caregivers that help them to develop themselves. The organisation uses social media to raise awareness. Organisation contact details (011)5362278.
