The casual Workers Advice Office (CWAO) is an organisation that was formed in 2011 by Ighsaan Schroeder. CWAO is based in Germiston, it was formed to assist vulnerable workers who do not belong to unions. Its formation focuses primarily on addressing the issues of workers who are exploited by their employees, the issue of continuous short-term contracts and the system of casualisation. Since CWAO is a not-for-profit, they assist members of the community for free. The organisation has board members, coordinators, organisers, a legal team and an education team. They do not elect their members. Their activities include organising workers, running campaigns, and providing political education to workers and communities. Some of the campaigns include Open CCMA, Covid-19 Working Class Campaign (CWCC), R350 Social Relief Grant, Anti-Xenophobia campaigns etc. They work with many organisations, including unions and Khanya College. They train and develop their staff through labour laws training and attending different workshops around issues of workers. They also produce newsletters and pamphlets to raise awareness.
