Kliptown Youth Program (KYP) was founded on 27 May 2007, it is based in Kliptown, Soweto. KYP was established to provide holistic support to people in response to the social challenges that Kliptown residents are facing in addition to that provide the space for opportunities. KYP works with children from grades 1-12 who come to the organisation from 3 pm -5 pm.
KYP implements a lot of programs like sports, a vocational program, arts and culture and an after-school program. These programs help the organisation engage with children in all aspects. It implements these programs as soon as the children arrive at the organisation but from 9 am-2 pm, the organisation is open for the members of the community for internet use and other things, including assisting the community with registering for Social Relief Grant (SRG).
Management elects the leaders. Members are promoted through evaluations and work and qualities like work ethic, punctuality etc. Staff development is a vital element of the organisation. We have financial training, training for personal development and motivational Wednesdays where we just encourage each other to strive in order to achieve their dreams.
KYP works with many organisations, including Mark Day School, based in Germany. KYP does not have a newsletter currently but publishes its daily updates on its website.
