Collen Mavasa (32) was born in Giyani, Limpopo. He is the eldest of 4 children. Through his love of societal issues, he went to do a BA degree in social sciences majoring in political science, psychology and research methodology at the University of Limpopo and a postgraduate degree in political science and a programme in the foundation phase through the University of South Africa in 2016.
Collen taught grade one at LCK Academy which is based in Florida west. He also pursued his teaching career by teaching disabled pupils at Johannesburg school of the blind. One of the activist moments was his experience mobilising fellow interns against workplace bullying at the Boston City Campus.
He worked for three years as a caregiver at Thathezakho aftercare centre in Soweto from 2019 to 2022. Through his experience working with different children, he introduced a programme which helped beneficiaries who attend the aftercare to read to learn so that they can understand every subject they are being taught at school. This kind of literacy development should be introduced in the reception year of education to all the children in South Africa. In April 2022 Collen joined Khanya college as an organiser.
