Ubuntu is when people love one another and show kindness, and genuine care. It is also about being honest and trustworthy.
Friendship is when two or more people share a bond of love and companions. Sometimes, these friends grow even closer and become best friends. Such relationship is built on honesty, care, love and trust. Often, two people start off as friends and, over time, realise that they can rely on each other, they care for one another like brothers, sisters, or like family. That’s when they take the next step in their friendship.
Unfortunately, these days honest friendships are rare, all our friends are just fake. They gossip about one another, and they even reveal each other’s secrets when they are fighting.
Sometimes in life, you need to choose your friends wisely and be very careful, because people we call friends are not always true.
Ubuntu and Friendship in My Community
By Rotondwa Mnisi
Ubuntu means a lot to me, it’s about supporting, caring, and being kind to the next person. But in my community, Ubuntu doesn’t exist anymore. People no longer love as they did before, and they don’t care or support one another.
For example, it now feels like: I work for my family, I feed myself, and you feed yourself. Everyone is on their own.
I want to change my community in many ways so that we can show Ubuntu to each other again, like we used to.
I know there are still some people in my community who want to show care, kindness, support, and love to others in other words, they still believe in solidarity. I think every community should build an organisation where people who still want to help others can come together. The government should also support these organisations.
Friendship may be important to some people, but to me, it raises a lot of questions. These days, people say they’re friends and tell each other, “I’ve got your back,” but in reality, it’s often not true.
You can’t trust people easily anymore. Some are just there to use you, and that’s why I don’t believe in friendship the way I used to.
Infrastructure at Schools
By Liyabona Ntyundwana
In my school there are a lot of issues. The learners are writing on school walls, especially in the toilets, where they write terrible words.
In my class there are 56 learners, and some learners either don’t hear when the teacher is explaining something during lesson times, sometimes teachers are not aware that learners do not hear them when they teach.
And in my class, there is a boy that is deaf. My maths teacher always beats the learner when he fails, it seems like the teacher doesn’t understand that the boy is disabled.
My English teacher always chooses this boy to read story articles, and when he doesn’t read well, the teacher beats him. I feel sad for him every time.
My schoolyard is also dirty, and no one volunteers to clean it. The boys’ toilets smell bad, and they toilet have no doors, and the seats are broken. My desk has many holes.
Who can help my school?
