Format:  Conversation

Date and Time: 24 September 2020, 1100 – 1130

The Tsohang Batjha authors are between the ages of 13 and 18 years old. (Tsohang Batjha (TB) means ‘Arise Youth’ in Sesotho.) As part of creating readers and writers, the JBF provides ongoing support to Tsohang Batjha book clubs at schools and in communities throughout the year.

The TB writers live in working class communities in Johannesburg and attend public government schools; and some are from Orphan and Vulnerable Centres. The TB writers in this conversation are all winners of the 2018 and 2019 Jozi Book Fair Schools Short Story Competition and their stories were published in Batjha Kaofela: Love is in the Air and Other Stories (2018) and Batjha Kaofela: Caught between Cultures: What can I do? And other Stories (2019). The TB writers will read extracts from their stories and discuss the issues and challenges that affect them as young readers and writers.
