The year 2021 was not easy, especially for the working class, CHWs, and the Gauteng Forum members. The numbers of Covid-19 cases increased and the pandemic is still set to put many working class people in danger. Many people lost their jobs and others faces difficulties of working from home. During this difficult time CHWs were working and putting their lives in danger to save their communities. In July many shops where looted, especially for food, as people struggled to survive. Many people depend on the R350 Social Relief Grant for survival.
Despite all these challenges the Forum tried to run campaigns like defending those workers who are still un-contracted and have not been included into the Gauteng Department of Health. The Forum is also supporting the national legal case to have all CHWs made permanent workers of the respective provincial health departments.
The start of a new year can be a very moving experience. It’s a time where we reflect with gratitude on the past and set our hopes and intentions for the days ahead. This gives us an opportunity to reinvigorate our enthusiasm and to pursue the goals and objectives of the organisation. There is so much pressure on the working class and it will be hard to fulfill our mission if we are not united.
We should not wave away 2021 but aspire to be a better examples of ourselves. It is time to be grateful for whatever we did and it’s time to be inspired and to promise to stay focused. We must always bear in mind our resolution to succeed in our struggle.
The new year 2022 brings in new opportunities. This year we also have plans for big campaigns to improve women’s health and children’s health; and the improve the lives of our community. I strongly believe we will achieve our goals if we keep up our spirit and unshakeable determination.
May all our wishes come true in 2022. I wish you a safe, heathy and prosperous 2022!
