President Cyril Ramaphosa visited Orange Farm’s Chris Hani Sports Complex in October 2021 where he encourage the people to vote for the ANC. However, people are frustrated by the empty promises made by the ANC for the past five years as they still don’t see any changes made. There is still a high rate of unemployment and there have been no any improvements or developments in the area of Orange farm.
The President kept on promising people that his change will make lives better. Basic services such as water and electricity are still lacking in Orange Farm. The Department of Home Affairs has to offer services such as issuing IDs locally, rather than expecting communities to travel for services. The community is still complaining about the need for roads because they suffer when its rains or they have to walk in the mud. Often sewage pipes burst and it takes a long time for basic services like sewage maintenance.
The community is also frustrated by the unhealthy environment at Stredford Primary School at the Extension 8a. Thobile, a mother of a child studying at that school said, “Since 2017 the school has had this sewage problem till today. The government has failed to fix this.”
Some community members went to the municipality to complain that the school is not safe for children because it’s unhealthy and causes the children to get sick. The children play around the sewage furrows that have dirty water and sewage waste. Parents are not happy and brought these issues to President Ramaphosa who promised to solve them.
