The pandemic has been threatening the lives of many and has not been choosy on who it affects. It affects different classes and departments. It has affected both the public and private sectors in the whole world including in South Africa.
Many government offices have remained closed ever since the nationwide lockdown started in late March 2020. Some have reopened as the lockdown regulations have been eased. In the process of reopening offices and departments, this never meant that the pandemic was gone and that everything is back to normal. It meant that everyone who will be going back to work and everyone at home had to be more vigilant. As much as some people maintained social-distancing and wore masks, washed and sanitised hands, still there were infections.
The Olifantsfontein Police Station, in the East of Johannesburg, has closed and reopened three times now since the lockdown started because some officials tested positive for the coronavirus. Services were rendered outside the premises of the station. Now the station has been closed again because there was someone diagnosed with COVID-19. The police station has to be decontaminated before it can be re-opened. Everyone seeking assistance from the station is requested to go to the Community Service Center at the Municipality Paypoint at the Olifantsfontein Library.
People affected by the closing of police stations are those residing in Winnie Mandela, Clayville East and West, Tswelopele and Hospital View (Tembisa, North of Kempton Park). The police station closed on 16 August 2020. Residents will be notified as to when it will reopen. We are yet to see many facilities closing again because of COVID-19 related cases. We all have to be more vigilant for our safety and everyone close to us.
