The only Post Office in Zuurbekom (on the Westrand of Gauteng) was shut down last year December during the festive season. The community of Zuurbekom was hoping that the Post Office would be re-opened after possible renovation processes, but it they found that it has been completely closed down. The community later heard that the office was allegedly closed due to lack of rent. Residents of the area now have to struggle with transport fees to go get service at the nearest post office in town.

Most goverment facilities in the Zuurbekom area, such as police station, train station, and shops at the petrol station have all been closed for a long time. The community struggles a lot to get services brought to Zuurbekom, like ATMs. The Post Office was the only facility that the community could use to send and receive their funds. Now that even this has been closed, people are extremely frustrated.

There is no plan that has been implemented or developed towards community development ever since the community council has been elected. But the community of Zuurbekom do not attend or participate in the community meetings or in any event taking place. It is only a minority of people who are use their personal time to try to organise and assist the community, but often these actions end when they have barely started.
