The community of Rethabiseng in Bronkhorstspruit, Tshwane, has been waiting for a long time for government to deliver toilets as promised. finally on the 6 July 2020, there were toilets delivered to the community of Rethabiseng after a long wait.
The people who live in an informal settlement in Rethabiseng, Bronkhorstspruit, have been relieving themselves in the bushes and buckets since they didn’t even have pit toilets.
Service delivery generally takes long to reach the informal settlement. Members of the community say they have been waiting for toilets since the lockdown was announced, but the toilets arrived late.
In Rethabiseng, there is a lot of development that needs to be done. Many of the leaders have failed the community; and there are claims of corruption with regards to the provision of toilets and other social services.
The community needs to come together, learn from our mistakes, and start to teach upcoming generations that education is key. The community has formed some pressure groups, but some groups only want to benefit and fail to develop the community Or care about the community’s needs.
