Amanda Nhlapo is an Activist that lives in Diepkloof Zone 6 Hostel. She works at Rena le Lona – a creative centre for children and a non-profit organisation. She joined the organisation in 2023. Before becoming a facilitator, she was a beneficiary since the age of 6 years. As a facilitator, she says she faces many challenges both from the community and work.

The community problems are because she gets referred a lot of cases demanding her facilitation skills and her caregiving qualities. There are people or families that go to bed hungry and as the DSD is part of the centre and is choosing families that they believe are vulnerable and in need and sometimes it worries me cause I see many things some families go to sleep hungry

Work problems I have multiple tasks to do at work I might call myself a team player as I can do I multitask and do work or cover work in every way I can. I am a hard working person who’s always willing to help people who are in need and most specially I love arts. I am an artist and a coach or facilitator. I love facilitating the youth after me as I was taught

She made first contact with Khanya in 2021 and is still learning how to be a better activist. “I am using what I have learned to see how I help my community and organisation.”
